Healthy Living Tips: Healthy Bones

Steps you can take for healthy bones:

Osteoporosis is not a normal part of aging. Building strong bones during childhood and adolescence is the best defense against getting osteoporosis later. Even as you get older, you can stop your bones from becoming weak, brittle and more likely to break.

  • Get enough calcium
  • Get enough vitamin D
  • Be physical active
  • Don't smoke
  • Drink alcohol moderately
  • Prevent falls
  • Get a bone density test
  • Consider taking medications that prevent or treat bone loss
  • Start Early

Foods with Calcium

  • Plain, fat free (or low fat) yogurt
  • American cheese
  • Milk (low fat or fat free)
  • Orange juice with added calcium
  • Broccoli, cooked or fresh
